Adjudant-Major Principal Assistant Conductor Dirk Acquet

Dirk Acquet was born on July 8, 1962 at Schaarbeek (Brussels). He graduated from the local academy of music for clarinet and was awarded the Government Medal. At the Antwerp Royal Conservatory of Music he obtained the superior degree for saxophone with A. Michaux and F. Vanattenhoven and the superior degree for chamber music with Theo Mertens.

He started his musical career in 1983 as a tenor saxophonist with the Band of the Belgian Gendarmerie. Four years later, he moved to the Band of the Belgian Navy and was successively acting conductor for two years and then assistant conductor until 2003.

Since November 2003, Dirk Acquet is assistant director of the Royal Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides. He is also still active as a freelance saxophonist with several symphony orchestras (including the Brussels Philharmonic, the National Orchestra of Belgium and The Flemish Opera Orchestra) and is currently a member of the saxophone quartet “Quatre Quart”.
